WARMINSTER - Taking over a high school swim program is a difficult transition for anyone, but it's even tougher whan the coach has never been the head coach of a high school team before. Archbishop Wood's Charlie Stillwell took things in stirde. Stillwell led the Wood girls team to 4-2 overall, 3-2 in the Philadelphia Catholic League, second place at the PCL championships and third at the National Catholic championships. For this accomplishment, he is the 1997-1998 Courier Times Coach of the Year for girls swimming. "I was the assistant coach last year, and I knew I would be taking over, so I was getting a feel for it," said Stillwell, a former Wood swimmer who also coaches the boys team. "I'm really happy with the way the season went. Our team swam well all year. Our team swam well all year. We had good results and our times were good.
